As Muslims, the position of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW is the main guideline, so its authenticity must be maintained and preserved properly, so as not to lead to misguidance which can ultimately destroy Muslims themselves from. False hadiths or hasdis maudhu' is one of the major sins, this occurred at the same time as the slander kubro event at the time of the caliph Ustman bin Affan, this event became a toxic chain that divided Muslims into several groups. As a result, during the reign of the caliph Ali bin Abi Talib, each camp in the name of the Prophet SAW made maudhu hadiths for the sake of their respective political interests. The method used in this paper is the descriptive analysis method. This paper aims to thoroughly examine the maudhu hadith, starting from the history, criteria, and efforts of the ulama' to eradicate fake hadiths.
