The Quran is the holy book of Muslims that is relevant forever. The publication of a verse is certainly related to a particular incident, such as when there was an incident about the jahiliyah who were arbitrary towards their wives, disrespecting women, depriving women of what was right in the form of dowry. So the verse of the Qur'an was revealed which eradicated all the ugliness of the jahiliyah, Islam has come to glorify women, including with the marriage dowry. This research While the method used by the author is descriptive qualitative method with research results in the form of detailed and clear writing. The results showed that QS al-Baqarah verse 237 and QS an-Nisa' verses 20, 21, 24 and 25 contain the obligation of husbands to pay dowry to wives both from free and slaves. The mahr becomes the legal right of the wife and the husband has no right to take it when divorced, even when divorced and have not had intercourse, half of the mahr must be paid.
