Al-Mawardi is one of the famous Islamic thinkers, he is also a leading figure of the Shafi'i school. He became Supreme Judge (Qadi al-Qudat) in the Abbasid government when Al-Qadir was in power. Even so, he is a prolific writer. There are quite a lot of his works in various branches of knowledge: ushul fiqh, jurisprudence, hadith, tafsir, fiqh siyasah (state administration). It is through this siyasah fiqh that his name stands out. One of his famous works that is used as a reference for political science and government is his book "al-Ahkam al-Sulthoniyyah".

In his book, Al Mawardi discusses the main points of statehood such as: the position of caliph and its conditions, how to appoint him, the relationship between the state and the people, the basic foundations for a state to be established, and also regarding the removal of the caliph (when a caliph is removed from office). position) and other issues relating to state administration.
